Sasquatch hunting :)

I have been wanting to do this since i heard about it years ago! and yesterday was the perfect opportunity! (brian going is not an option, so we went while he was at work!) We talked about going to the zoo, but we were under a "high heat advisory" It got to 100 degrees according to my phone!~! WOW! Concerned about the heat (more so sitting in traffic with the Saturn than the boys and I! and our play date for that day doesn't do heat well!)  we chose instead to go to the Ape Caves where it is a constant 42 degrees in the cave. The route we took is three quarters of a mile of a lava tube on the south side of Mount Saint Helens. There is zero light down there except for the lanterns and flashlights you bring yourself! No, we didn't see any bats, only one spider :) The first pictures here is a place called Trail of Two Trees. This is an incredible lava bed type forest. ..see the hole above? they look like perfect wishing well holes. When the mountain spewed lava, it surrounded the trees, then the trees burned to ashes and these perfect holes were left...it is stunning! This one below has a tree growing out of one of the holes.. also, there were trees lying down too from the eruption, and the same happened, the trees burned to ashes as the lava cooled, and there are perfect circular tunnels underground (under the lava bed)
we stopped at a fish hatchery and played in the water for a few minutes on the way home.
